Great bounce back yesterday always felt we'd dig something out today even if the team was questionable. Lots of stand out performers but was really happy to see us playing as a team more. Derry very poor let's be honest but still had to beat them all the same. Defence was solid but derry didn't have much up front I expected more. Midfield again good but I think that pairing will struggle long term when we come up against galway/cork etc, Toher is decent and again another option don't get me wrong. Menton always rated very highly. COB wing forward worked was happy to see lads getting confidence and kick on. People saying carry was outstanding again would be questionable ..look he was a free man for the whole game done a good job of it all the same but I reckon he had the easiest role out of all the backs won't be the case if he has to go man to man then we'll know really how good he is. Delighted to see him play like toher. Ketchup (Meath) - Posts: 22 - 13/02/2017 09:44:46 1955932 Link 0 |
It was 12 euros both days for a student and OAP and that was what was posted at entrance. I am not a student but 12 euros is ridiculous for guys who are not in employment, being subsidised by parents with most of them keeping the games going by playing. Typical greed which appears the norm now- the guys in CP are on pretty good salaries you will find. 5 euros would be fine

Yesterday both Sheridan and lenihan were stood in the middle at navan end all the space was in the corner stand side and he runs terrace side when Derry sweeper was standing like it was the same last week and then Downey get taken off look I know he got blocked down and caught in possession but I would rather see a lad trying to do something rather then look at a lad for 52 mins running into the sweeper Meath909 (Meath) - Posts: 19 - 13/02/2017 10:08:32 1955954 Link 0 |
Firstly the cost, I think 12 euro is too much for division 2 games, I think 10 euro is a fairer price but anyway thats not going to change. The first half performance was pretty poor, way too much sideways and backwards hand passing, I am not suggesting they just lump it into the forwards but the few times the worked it out to the wings and played low diagonal balls in the square it worked well and caused Derry problems. royalfan1316 (Meath) - Posts: 27 - 13/02/2017 10:18:53 1955975 Link 0 |
I agree with all of most of what you said but I was right behind Wallace on the terrace and he defo dragged his man to the ground with a hand on the back, really Sill from Emmon, The lines man gave the black I say because clear from terrace.

I agree about the sideways handpassing in the first half - the crowd were really getting on their backs about it in the first half, but the real problem was most of the lads ahead of the ball were making no runs or showed no movement whatsoever.. It was all very static. The best teams in the country are happy to pass it about over and back but when they do, their forwards are still making runs and creating space for others to run into.

Right I just remember at the time 2 or 3 times lads had been fouled with no consequence from the ref then we lost 2 in the space of 5 minutes

I agree the ref was all over the place no consistency we where pretty reserved considering some decisions. but it was still silly from Wallace.

Would have loved to hear what McEntee said to them at half time! Last few seasons we've shown we put in huge first half performances then fall apart, hopefully this is the start of Meath putting in big second half performances! LowerHogan (Meath) - Posts: 22 - 13/02/2017 13:45:08 1956130 Link 0 |
Yep I agree we where totally clueless in attack first half. We got to there 40 yard line seem think what are going to do now ? It looked like we had no plan.

Tobins Beard Exactly ... well put 1st half most frustrating slow cumbersome going nowhere. Your point about forward positioning and play is spot on in my view. Surprisingly some of the more prominent posters suggest that more direct play means hoof it in and god direct it only. That interpetation of what is meant by more direct play is very limited ,and may apply in some circumstances using a good target man . It is only one element of direct play. Direct play is movement on and off the ball designed to retain possesion and progression to increase scoring chance.

Well done to the lads yesterday, especially young McEntee and Menton who upped their performance impressively from the week before. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1316 - 13/02/2017 14:03:31 1956142 Link 7 |
Everyone was quite rightly very down on the team last week but many went way over the top in getting personal on players which I feel is unfair, it was a bad performance which was exploited by Kildare, Yesterday was a good performance by largely the same team, who in the second half ruthlessly exposed a poor Derry side, they most encouraging aspect was that they were not satisfied at any stage and pushed on to the final whistle. Good job they had the wind behind them in the second half. It gave them the impetus to keep going for scores late on, when the game was won (and also rectify our negative points difference in the table). I doubt they would have scored as much had they played with the wind in the first half. It also showed that in certain weather conditions, it is wise to play a slightly defensive half-forward line when playing against a strong wind (to stay in touch on the scoreboard) and then cut loose and play a more attacking line up with the wind.
