Good luck to St Colmcilles today

Exciting game, it's a pity that they missed a good few scoreable frees but that's football. I have been critical of biggy in the past but he was different class today, the footballer of the year was finding it hard against him, long may it continue.

Gutted but so so proud too. Biggie gave player of the year a harder game than many from so called better teams have. Jack Regan was very good. I can't help but feel proud of everything they all have achieved, thank you management players and support for a fantastic journey
You owe us nothing.

I was at the game today and I taught the Cilles where dead and buried a few times. Great character shown by the Cilles to hang in there. some big efforts all over the field. If the game went on for and another 1 maybe 2 I could see the Cilles wining it. But that's it.

Oh it was heart in mouth stuff, I really thought we were heading to et and we would clinch it.

The missed frees were the ultimate difference but westport were far slicker. great spirit to keep going.

Sharp with the whistle? Seven minutes of injury time was played.

Anyway, fair play to Colmcilles, they showed great heart to come back from an eight point deficit at one point.

I think my hair went from grey to fair and back to grey.
You are right. What a fantastic journey it had been.
Thank you one and all.

Outside of Ashbourne most people in the county would agree that Cilles were Club of the year 2016.

As for 2017, any club that play in an All-Ireland in Croke Park and denied by a crossbar to take it to extra time has to be considered. No other club in the County can do that in 2017 !!!!

6 minutes was allotted 6 minutes exactly was played. Unless I missed something. Anyone else think Keegan should have got a black card ? Looked like the ref bottled it. I seen them given for a lot less. A word on number 21 for Westport he is a class act really tough and strong in the tackle too.

Keegan should have gone for certain.

Ref bottled the call..

He also bottled the penalty until he got the call in the ear.

Look we can talk about this game all day and as heartbreaking as it was for Cillles. You can't give any team a 9 point lead and expect to win.

It's a pity but they missed easy chances and gave away two goals that shouldn't have been.

I've seen blacks given for less, but Reilly was destroying him, maybe ref felt sorry for him and didn't want him black carded in another final.

He was a bit lucky to escape without a black tbf, not one of his finer performances as other posters have alluded to. Funnily enough all of Westport's five Leaving Cert starters were immense.

It was a great achievement given that Westport got relegated from senior a couple of years back and it's always been more of a soccer town anyway.

Reilly has unreal pace and just shows our game the way it's gone keegan programmed to pull and drag. No real man to man defenders left double up and turnovers is all you hear from sidelines now. Only mistake reilly didn't do was run into Keegan when he on the yellow red would have had no choice to send him off. Keegan wouldn't have let reilly run past him.

Any other year they probably would have walked it but Ashbourne did claim A and B league Div 1 titles, Feis cup And U21 champions along with runner up in SFC. I am not even from south Meath but that was some achievement which has been overlooked by some purely because of their bottling on the big day again.
