I think it shows how little regard the county board have for the Feis Cup. To be honest, I think most clubs and supporters have the same disregard for the competition. I follow club football quite closely (although nearly as much as I used to), and I had to check who was even in the final.

I have said it before on here that I think the Feis cup should be switched to a pre-league competition. If the senior and intermediate competitions each had 16 clubs (as they should have), the you have 32 clubs for the feis cup. 8 groups of 4. Top team into quarter final, second team into a shield.
The whole thing could be run off in 6 weeks in February and March. Final under lights in Pairc Tailteann. That way every team gets at least 3 warm-up games before the league starts at the beginning of April. Then have league games pretty much every week from April through to June/July.

Not a thing wrong with it. Why build the place if it's not going to be used for games. People giving out about it (like a certain local journalist on Twitter) seem to be just looking for something to moan about. Not many more places you can play it since it's hard to get a free weekend, and two of the other midweek options with lights are presumably out of the question since they are the teams in the final. To be honest, I don't think players really care about the competition anymore anyway.

Like all things these days, the argument turns to the issue of competition structure. Play these competitions in January/February. Then shorten the leagues by reducing the number of teams in each division. That might begin to solve some of the headaches at least.

no hurling royal its a final with a proud history it deserves some respect dunganny is fine for filling gaps but at the end of the day its a county final should be in pairc tailteann neither team have many hurlers so why not play it this weekend

I'm sure Ashbourne must have at least a few dual players. Even if Pairc Taliteann's lights were in operation I've no doubt that this would still be a midweek game. There just isn't enough free Sundays left in the yer, like it or not. The interest isn't there anymore. The competition may have a proud history but that's exactly what it is, history. It's this sort of nostalgia that makes it so hard to have any sort of progression in the GAA.
