Meath v Kildare

Fantastic result in Newbridge yesterday. Still hear people this morning saying we haven't a hope against Antrim but that should give the lads more reason to push them to the best of their ability!

Regarding the lads that don't play for the county who HAVE been asked several times and by different management over the last few years, they really should be ashamed of themselves. As much as I have always felt that whether its hurling or football, your club comes first, it should be an honour to pull on your county's jersey. Seem's to be a trend in one particular area of this county where they try and just keep their players at the club and I think that clubs should be reprimanded if there players don't show for a county call up! Although that wouldn't happen either because of who is at the helm of the hurling side of the county board :)

It'd be a stupid idea to punish clubs for their players not playing for the county. They have free will and its not like they owe the county their allegiance. Do you really want the county team to be made up of lads who are only there not because they want to, but because the rules say they have to be?

At best all you'd get is unmotivated players going through the motions for the county to prevent their club suffering. Say I'm a player who doesn't want to play for Meath but gets called up, what's stopping me showing up hungover and tired? Or turning up, then never breaking a sweat in training? or saying my hamstring is tight and stepping out? It'd be pretty easy to get instantly dropped and not actually have to play.

How has this post turned negative !! Forget about the lads who aren't on it because it's the lads who were there yesterday that got to Croke Park. Enough said about lads who don't want to play it's ridiculous at this stage. Concentrate on the team that's going to Christy Ring final end of!

There are many players who want to play for their county, but cannot give the commitment.
Other players do not want to train 3-4 times a week for one day out in croke park.
And that's ok, that's their own choice, we cannot force lads to play. Clubs cannot force lads either.

I think people should focus on the players who are in there. And how this can help Meath Hurling prosper in the years to come.
Meath Hurling can get back to the level it was at 15 years ago if we drive on from this.
There was a great crowd in Newbridge Sunday and I would expect twice as many to go to Croker.

Very cryptic post there Bowza... Care to elaborate?

I'm guessing you're having a go at Kildalkey?

Hopefully Meath will send a good crowd to this. Its a Croke Park final with silverware and promotion available so no excuse for any Meath GAA fan not to go. Not getting my hopes up though I'd still expect CP to be barren.

Well done to the lads nonetheless, it was a disappointing league but they've hit the ground running at the right time. Now lets show these nordies Meath men CAN hurl.

Maybe I shot the gun a bit about clubs being punished, but I think it is a bit silly that lads with so much ability turn down opportunities to really help get us back to like someone said, where we were 15 years ago...

Anyway, ''begining'', I'm not directing it at one particular club. There are a few clubs that are at the fore front of the county board that seem to look after there own... I'm all for doing the best by your club, but not if it's not in the interest of every club in the county. A perfect example of this is the removal of the junior 2 competition. Some clubs don't have the vast number of players to field hurling teams with ease but have to call upon players who have great interest in playing a bit of hurling. But since the format changed, the weaker clubs with 2nd teams suffer because they go out against some of the bigger hurling clubs in Meath in its current format and get a pummeling!! It puts hurling out of lads heads, therefore leaving the hurling kingpins in Meath with a monopoly...

Congratulations and best wishes to Meath in the Final. The work that is being done in Kildare and Meath in improving Hurling in both counties is paying off.
