Not bad considering Meath only lost by a point to Cavan and didn't perform well.

That's not a bad result then for the U16s, the Man of the Match in the plate final was Paddy Matthews from Meath Hill . He was used in his familiar position of Midfield in the Plate final and drove the Meath boys on , which is his best / more familiar position . The guys on the line appear to have got that right against Westmeath this time out .
Well done to the Meath U16s.

What do we make of this, positive news surely........

Leinster Council is funding coaching and games development in four counties in close proximity to Dublin.

The Irish Independent reports that the GAA at central level have pledged €500,000 per year for an initial three years to fund coaching and games development projects in Louth, Meath, Kildare and Wicklow.

The hope is that the significant investment will raise standards and help close the gap between Dublin and the rest.

"We're not going around with our heads in the sand," Leinster Council chairman John Horan remarked.

"We need a marketable product to keep sponsors going and we need a marketable product to get supporters to come.

"You can't have those big gaps that exist between Dublin and the rest. This is an attempt to address that."

Applications are currently being invited from qualified candidates for the role of Games Promotion Officers in each county.

It is envisaged that the number of GPO's in Louth, Meath, Kildare and Wicklow will double, if not treble, in the not too distant future.

In Meath, meanwhile, former county footballer and selector/coach Sean Kelly is due to take up a part-time role as a Director of Coaching in the coming weeks while All Star Johnny Doyle has been appointed as Community Development and Participation Officer in Kildare.

That is good news , the gap between the capital and ourselves is obviously resulting in a drop of revenue from a number of revenue streams so much so that the guys in central are willing to contribute this money to arrest this problem . Good news .
Also interesting that Sean Kelly has become Director of Coaching . Maybe I'm missing something but I though Sean Boylan was re-appointed last year .
Best of luck to Sean on this, I hope he brings something to the table . Attendance at some of the Dev Squad games would be a good start .
This probably counts him out as a candidate for the Meath Senior position .......

In the greater scheme of things we will get 125,000 a year.I wonder does this have to go to development squads etc? Can we use it to pay(some) coaches full time? Is it a lot of money for what could be done?

While welcoming the news of a cash injection, I am a little curious as to why the money is being ear-marked for the counties surrounding Dublin, instead of being spread around all of the Leinster counties. From the article, it suggests that its because they are the areas of population growth. If I was being cynical about it, I might almost think that they are the counties where most of the ex-pat Dubs live, whose kids can get proper coaching, and then turn around and declare for Dublin!
