Hard luck to our 3 nominatees. Unlucky, in general. Brian Howard's nomination at #6 has cost a Donal Keoghan, a Colm Boyle, a James McCarthy etc of a merited award. Disappointing and embarassing.

Murphy isn't a full time employee with the GPA. He owns a sports shop in Letterkenny.

Don't think hard luck applies to our lads in this case . Howard is an outstanding footballer ,and fully deserved his award . Hard luck and unlucky are over used terms in sport . Team all star is based on pure ability shown over the previous championship . I agree James McCarthy should have got one but not on the omission of Howard .

Think you missed my point.

Brian Howard is a fabulous footballer and probably deserves an all star but @6??? No IMO never. Sure he never played as a defender all year. Put him in half forwards. You can decide who to omit there.

Our 3 nominees were unlucky, in terms of who they were against, personnel wise. Conor McGill was going against Ronan McNamee who probably was exceptional this year. Donal Keoghan was unlucky, as the GPA/GAA All Star committee picked a nominated forward as a defender, as stated abobe. And finally, Bryan Menton was nominated alongside 2 of the best midfielders of this generation. I think this is slightly unlucky, but I take your point that its used too easily in sporting terms. Maybe I should rephrase it to say "need to improve to succeed", to the 3 lads.

Quote:' two of the best midfielders of this generation'- I think not. Moran plays one good game then contributes very little the next day out= kicked 4 ball wide in the second half of AI when their were good scoring forwards on the team available to pass to. There are many good midfielders throughout the championship - Murphy being one. Keoghan was the only one unlucky but they are given out in a strange way. You could also say that McHugh was unlucky. It is easier to play well on a very good team like Dublin who have a significant number of very good players with a high work rate and good decision making skills.

Agree with you re Ryan McHugh being unlucky too.

Also it is definitely easier to play in a quality team.

But IMO David Moran is up there with the best midfielders of this generation. I accept your point of losing possession in All Ireland final, but I'll agree to differ

Are we being realistic about our chances here? Keoghan was our best chance and still at longish odds. No reflection on the quality of the 3 men who were brilliant all year but supporters in other counties feel equally aggrieved. In the words of a former Prem League manager - everybody thinks their wife is the prettiest!!

The All Stars are well past their "sell by" date. All they do is heap extra awards on lads who are weighed down with precious metal already. Outstanding displays by players from weaker counties are not recognised anymore. For example Paddy Moriarty of Armagh was recognised as an All Star at No 15 well before he reverted to defence in 1977 and became a household name. Even this year Enda Rowland of Laois was a serious contender for hurling goalkeeper, but he scored some brilliant long range frees so on the "Howard at 6" theory why not award him elsewhere? Maybe in place of Colin Fennelly at 12 especially as Fennelly played 14 all year and had an absolute stinker in the final. I could go on and on and on but the whole concept has been hijacked by scribes who simply do not look beyond the well established elite. To quote the unquotable "Drain the Swamp", now. Of course Donal Keoghan was well in the running for a half back berth before the parachute arrived. Crooked is a mild description.

Totall agree ! Most county's think they have a few all stars . Like most clubs feel a few of the local lads are county material . Just human nature . Anyway at least the lads got a free dinner out of it and well deserved !

Is that what you think our lads are in it for? A free dinner while they watch our greatest rivals Dublin glory in the night. Pathetic comment!

100%. The lads did well this year. Easy draw buy targets met. If we improve next year we should land an all star or 2

No need for Donal to be embarrassed. He had a great year and can hold his head up high. Alot of keyboard warriors on this

3 posters on this page are the same person. And not from Meath. We as genuine Meath supporters must ignore them. What a disgusting comment about 3 superb players. Don't even entertain that ONE PERSON, and if to prove my point that one person will log in and out multiple times to red thumb this post.
