Meath are progressing but I be worried our progress could be shown to be fairly relative if the Dubs give us a tanking. Young Conlon was great but Laois were awful at the back. Meath did not play very well either it has to be said. What is progress or a performance in the Leinster Final. Losing by less than 10 ? , losing by less than 5. Are we progressing at all if we get beat by more than 10 ?

I stayed for the second match on Sunday - Dublin didn't seem to get out of second gear and still racked up 26 points! I think best judge progress at the end of the year. I (and hate being negative!) can't see us beating Dublin but if we can recover from that and get into the Super 8's - how we fare in that will be a true reflection of our progress!

I think progress would be losing by less then 10, *provided* we remain competitive for 50-55mins and they draw away.
Meath haven't clicked yet this summer and have no performed to the level of the league final as yet. But I think we will in the final. With O'Sullivan, Keogan, menton and McMahon carrying the ball as direct as they are space will open up for Newman and Conlan. I believe meath will create chances for goals and take a few.
Would like to see Shane mcentee start and obviously Harnan if fit. Thomas O reilly is exciting and a prospect but with conlan putting in that performance I can't see a place for him yet, won't be displacing any of the other 5 forwards who started on Sunday. Meath May want to play long direct ball in given Dublin's challenges which could lead to a surprise pick possibly.
Regardless the progress has been huge this year. It's a long time since I sat in croker and watched meath win well despite not being at their best and no nerves!

As a team we are 12 to 24 months away from being a consistent top 8 team. But we are making serious progress and huge improvements. The improvements since Longford game last year have being seismic. We are the most improved team in the country in last 12 months going from 15th or 16th best team in the country to 8th or 9th best team in the country. There has been real progress. We are an upcoming team building for the future. The manager is in his third year and now is making an impact.
I really admire your optimism and hope your predictions for Meath come true, your information on Meath is very interesting to read and the points you make all indicate a good future for this Meath team. I wouldn't be as excited as you just yet, based on your analysis since last year's loss to Longford I just want to dig a bit deeper into some of those points.
Your progress report since Longford debacle last year
1 First promotion to division 1 in 13 years.
2 First promotion to 8 team division 1 in 20 years
3 First Leinster final appearance in 5 years
4 First victory in Croke Park in 5 years in league or championship.
5 First time we have won 3 championship matches in a row in 9 years.
6 First time we have won 3 championship matches in a row in Leinster in 18 years.
All true and lots to be happy about compared to the last few years.
We were ranked 13th before the league and moved up to 9th ranking before the championship.
You are right we are now beating most Division 2 teams, But I show the rankings of teams we played this year, the first ranking was the ranking before this year's league campaign and the 2nd ranking was before the Championship this year.
We had victories over the following ranked teams: Kildare (7th /11th), Armagh (10th /13th), Laois (11th/17th), Fermanagh (12th), Cork (14th/18th) Tipperary(15th), Clare (16th/14th), Carlow (18th/25th), Offaly (24th).
Almost all the teams we defeated either dropped ranking or remain unchanged between the start of the league and start of the championship and none of them are top 10 teams. Three of the nine teams we beat this year are among the first nine teams to exit the championship (Fermanagh, Carlow who were missing key players and Tipperary who we got hard to beat in Navan).
Yes impressive performances, once v Tyrone (4th) and twice v Donegal (5th /6th) but not the two best teams in the country. The best team is Dublin followed by Kerry and then probably after last weekend Donegal have moved up to third.
I do agree with you that: In every way this year so far has been a huge success. We are talking our best year in 9 years and one of our best years since Sean Boylan left and one of our best years since 2001. It is in the top 4 best years since 2001 All Ireland final appearance, so far and the year has a good bit to go so far.
The Dublin game is going to be massive, hope it will be like the Leinster semi-final on June 28th 2010 and we will be joyfully singing in unison again over towards the Hill, "ye are all very quiet over there".
