Sounds like they are punishing the clubs that have produced quality u20 players. I have no objection to them playing county football buy why on earth on the same day a the A leagues. Don't think it's a ploy by the management I just think they couldn't care less about the clubs and if they are allowed to get away with it they'll do it . A simple directive from the top telling them this is not allowed would sort it.

This weeks league games start tonight with a B Football league game between Cortown and St Vincents. I don't know if there are any players from these clubs or teams involved with the 20's. Tomorrow night Colmcilles play Curraha in A league Division 2. Then there is a host of games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a small number of B league games on Monday and Tuesday! That doesn't leave much room for the 20s management team to arrange a challenge game! I think the 20's challenge game is on in Derry in their Centre of excellence in Dungiven. It is more than a 2 hour drive from Trim to Dungiven. You need to allow the squad time to get to the meeting point (Dunganny) and give them at least 60 minutes to warm up and get ready! As most of the squad are in school, college or working that effectively rules out a mid week game. So what are the options for the 20's management team? The options are play your challenge games on league hurling weekends . Their might be 1 or 2 on the panel who play hurling for their clubs but I'd imagine it would affect a lot less clubs. Also the u20s league doesn't start till may and championship until July so plenty of time to play challenge games .

There are a few more than that - and it starts the whole row about the Hurlers being unfairly treated! April is club championship month - so they won't be available to the county in April.

Probably won't play challenge matches but they will be training with the u20s in April.

Play the challenge against Derry at 12:00 (mid day) on the 9th, the players would be home by 6pm latest and then they can tog out for their clubs on the 10th, this will keep everybody happy. Seems like the well organised clubs who produce quality players are being punished here. Happened to catch a bit of it - turns out it was switched to Dunganny. We won comfortably enough! 2-15 to 1-12 I think. Derry scored a goal late in the game but we appeared to be stronger all round.

I find it an absolute disgrace that these challenge matches are allowed to take place on the same day that a full round of A League games for clubs are on. It seems to be that the U20 management of this year and last year want total control over players are don't want them playing for their clubs at all. It is now almost a punishment for clubs to produce players good enough for county squads of all levels as they are held back from playing or heaven for bid training with their club for 95% of the year. I can except players training and playing midweek for the U20's squad but to prevent them from playing with their club teams at the weekend is a disgrace and is a complete two fingers to the club's who have produced them, and also completely underlines the total lack of respect the A Leagues are given in Meath at county board level. Absolutely Agree with your view on this and it should not be allowed . I think a lot of these under 20 players will find it difficult to break into clubs first teams (especially senior clubs ) when they return for Championships in Aprll.
