I know there was a discussion topic on this earlier in the year but just wanted to share a recent experience. My cousin and his wife attended the B league final recently in Ashbourne. They had their 15 year old son with them. They were going to support another cousin. They were charged €10 each as adults and a €5 for the juvenile. €25 for the 3 of them to see a Division 2 B league final. I think that is a bit steep! It is ridiculous. There was a discussion on this topic last weekend in local. Years ago there would be huge crowds of neutrals at club matches but not anymore. To watch 2 second strings play in a dead rubber championship match is €10 per person. Did you notice how the big gate fixtures seem to go to Ashbourne and Trim. Cronyism is alive and well

They made a massive mistake in changing the prices for championship games. They had it sorted when it was a Fiver in. People were going to multiple matches. Now there are only going to the one if your lucky. As for the league final mentioned, you want to be encouraging parents to be bringing their children to games, should have been free in. I know many club would have just taken 15 off the car when theres two adults in it and I think thats the way to go about it about things. Encourage as many people to attend the matches. I think Ollie mentioned it before about Louth offering a weekend pass for championship games where you can go to as many matches as possible. And Tipp did something similar last weekend for the finals. Myself and 2 mates went to a junior semi final as neutrals. €30 for the 3 of us. Absolute robbery. I rarely go to games my club aren't involved in any more. I don't mind paying €5 to any game but now more and more games are a tenner it just puts people off going completely. I know it has been discussed here at length before the very least you should expect is a score board and a team sheet. I don't know where you are going with your "cronyism" comment. There are not a lot of decent venues available with lights for mid week games. Most of the championship games that Ashbourne has got have been under lights. It is no advantage to the club getting such games. They have to provide stewards. They only get a fraction of the gate money (if any) and nobody goes to the bar for a drink any more after games. In addition to this their pitch is getting destroyed in bad weather conditions. Most of the clubs with new pitches don't put lights on their main pitch any more for this reason e.g. Trim, St Pats.

You are right on that. I remember asking a club chairman a few years ago why his club didn't put up proper floodlights. His answer was that the only ones who would benefit from that would be the county board for fixing games. There was very little for the club in it

Do you honestly believe the clubs get no money out of it.... drumconrath got a lot of games this year too.

Many clubs are not putting up lights because of the damage that is being done to the surface of pitches at this time of year- the money received would go nowhere near compensating for pitch damage. With decent planning there should ne no need top play championship knockout matches under lights in mid-week with players rushing from work- the county team is long out of the championship. 10 is too much - everybody complaining and keeping crowds away.
