Questions over referee for U17 final

(Oldest Posts First)

I see the referee for the U17 final is a Louth man. Don't get me wrong I don't see Louth as a threat at all and it seems to be them who have kept up this 'rivalry' since 2010 but questions have to be asked. Nothing against the man personally whatsoever, but is it fair to have a Louth man officiate the game, given the relationship of our two respective counties?

Don't think it should be an issue at all. If he's bad it's because he's bad and not because he's a louth man refereeing a meath game. A louth ref did the 1st game v Dublin as far as I know and there was no issues there

I am sure that there will be no problem with the ref and yet the bad side of me is a small bit worried. Various Meath teams had some strange decisions given by Louth referees over the past few years. This is a huge game for Meath underage. Remember we have exited both Leinster minor and under 21 championships by a point this year. Ditto the senior against Donegal. No luck at all. We have already hammered Dublin in the competition. Ah Heck, I know the ref will be fair.

Ah FFS. You can't disregard all Louth referees for every single Meath match because of one decision. We're talking about an u17 match here as well. What if Meath get a lucky break again against the other 30 counties in the future - must we get referees from Europe or the UK?

If you had to restrict referees to countys that never had a grudge against Meath you wouldnt have too many to choose from. Probably a wind up alright.

The game against Carlow had a ref from Louth, thought he was fairly good that day. Don't see the issue.

Utter utter nonsense. Dear lord. I think same could be said of a Westmeath/Kildare/Dublin. Insert majority of counties including Louth if that was the case. The man is a qualified referee , and to think he would hold some grudge over 10 is complete bs. He will do his job without fear or favour and will be like 99% of officials who don't want to be spoken of after game, as that means they did everything right.
Stop this nonsense please

Unagi the Louth/Meath rivalry goes back to the forties and fifties and not since 2010.

Some strange decisions from the ref, Meath had to earn there frees. Lucky the game wasn't closer.
