Was at the match yesterday . Outclassed ...no intensity from Meath ....no marking and standing off ...manager got it wrong re conlon ,but more importantly left the best young footballer in meath REILLY from Moylagh on the bench until it was too late ! . Heard a senior county board official bemoan the fact that "Kerry had been allowed into this completion " so it shows you where we think we are at at official level ! Hard to see anyone from this squad break into senior team although a few will be called in for panel fodder .

Replying To royaldunne:  "Indeed, no disappointment in reaching a all ire final after winning Leinster well done to all concerned. Hard luck lads this experience will stand to you in the future. Thanks for the commitment from all concerned you did your county proud"
fair play to the players for taking part but this competition is dead. no Dublin no ulster teams taking part. Kildare good enough but poor wexford poor louth teams and kilKenny . it would have been nice to win but it is not where we need to be to be improving meath football. Yes we have a good u 17 we need it again the next few years. we need to be in u20 leinster finals and all - Ireland finals. you and others on this getting carried away about this junior team.meath football is at a very low place and everyone needs to admit that before we can fix it. too many thought it was banty fault then o dowd but no Andy is there now and not one bit of improvement .time we tackle the real problem. which is club football in meath

it will be interesting to see how our u20's do in the coming years. the current champ structure does not help when it comes to intensity.

While it'd be nicer to win it than not win it, the junior as we have it now (and intermediate hurling) is past its sell by date and its days are numbered. Half the counties don't enter, and it's questionable how seriously the rest of the counties even take it. I'm including ourselves in that, since our attitude is basically "throw a team together in May and see what happens".

I know lads like to say "develop new players" but what happens to senior club players who need more inter county playing time? That's 18 clubs worth of players excluded from the junior team who don't get to benefit from this "development" that the junior team supposedly provides.
I'd even question how much the junior team actually adds to a county, 3 of the 4 of this years senior provincial champions don't field a junior team.

Munster have shown the way with the u25 hurling championship, open to players from all clubs but not current senior panelists.

Last year at congress the motion to abolish the junior grade got over 60% support but only didn't pass because it didn't get the 66.6% needed. If that same vote and result happened next year, the junior would be gone.
