August 18, 2017

Boardsmill had the minimum to spare over Seneschalstown

Seneschalstown 0-13 Boardsmill 2-8

Boardsmill senior ladies escaped from Fr Tully Park with a valuable 1 point win on Thursday night.

The Yellow Furze  outfit started brightly with Louise McKeever and Stacey Grimes raising white flags. Laura Dempsey responded with 4 points, 2 either side of a crucial Paula Dorian goal to leave Boardsmill ahead by 1.04 to 3 points at the end of the first quarter. It was a lead that was constantly threatened, but never overtaken by Seneschalstown. Louise McKeever and Stacey Grimes pointed again to close the gap to 2 points before Laura Bagnall scored a spectacular goal to settle the visitors nerves. Grimes and McKeever recorded 3 further points and Paula Dorian replied for the visitors before the half time whistle sounded.

Half Time Sensechalstown 0-8  Boardsmill 2-5

The second period saw Boardsmill start brightly with points from Bagnall and Dempsey. McKeever once again replied for the home side. The second period was very intense with little in the way of open attractive football. Senescahalstown lost a player to a yellow card with 10 minutes remaining but seemed to take that disadvantage in their stride with Grimes getting 3 of the next 4 scores for the home side. A Susan Kealey point was the visitors sole reply in the closing minutes .

The referee played 4 minutes injury time and a very relieved Boardsmill outfit left with the points after a 1 point victory, 2.08 to 0.13 in a game that could have gone either way.

Best for Boardsmill were Laura Dempsey and Sarah Bagnall
