This tightly contested match saw Boardsmill host St Ultans in a rematch of the 2016 Senior Final. Boardsmill will be very satisfied with their evenings work but they will do well to remember that trophies aren't handed out in July and there will be many more twists and turns in this years senior championship .
St Ultans settled first and grabbed a quick fire 1.02 in the opening quarter. Shauna Bennett with the goal with Megan Buchannan and Ciara Murray raising white flags . Boardsmill had plenty of the ball and kept in touch with frees from Paula Dorian and a well taken point from Caroline Quinn. Ger Doherty replied for the visitors just before Quinn finally broke free of her markers and shot to the net from a tight angle.The teams were level at this point . Elaine Duffy rounded off the half to send St Ultans in ahead by the minimum
The second period opened in similar fashion with a Doherty point before Laura Dempsey scored a fine goal and followed it up with a long range point. The hosts were 2 points ahead at this stage and the game was delicately poised. Boardsmill introduced Raina Griffin and Laura Garrigan and they continued to stretch their lead with points from Quinn , Susan Kealey and another Dorian free. The final 5 minutes St Ultans push for the goals needed to claw back the deficit but recorded 3 points from Elaine Duffy and Ger Doherty. Quinn grabbed her 2nd point in response to close out a 5 point winning margin for Boardsmill
