B FL Div 2: Ratoath by a point

July 18, 2017

Ratoath's Brian Daly

Ratoath 1-13 Seneschelstown 2-9

With weather more like something from the Costa Del Sol, Ratoath and the men from Beauparc played out an enthralling encounter tonight under the watchful eye of Gerry McGivney who let the play flow during a great 60 minutes of football.

Ratoath opened brightly with scores  from Brian Daly and Jack McGowan before Colm Nugent rattled the onion bag with a fine effort which went low and hard past the despairing dive of the Yellow Furze Keeper.

Seneschelstown battled bravely and were causing Ratoath rearguard some serious problems with their fine inter play and work rate and led at the break . Mid - way through the second half they were ahead by 3 points and things did not look good for the home side.

Ratoath though  displayed far greater urgency in the last quarter with Jack McGowan, Glen Reilly after a rampaging run, the aforementioned  Daly, Andrew Gerrard and Colm Nugent all raising the white flag to ensure a one point win for the home side who were well served by Eoin Clayton and  Paul Flaherty in defence, Ben McGowan and Richie Lombard in the middle and John Walsh who worked tirelessly up and down the wing all evening.

As the Simonstown whistler blew full time Ratoath can reflect on a hard fought, hard earned victory and look forward to the Junior C Championship on Sunday
