St. Vincent's pipped by Dunsany  

St. Vincents 0-14 Dunsany 2-10

In this League Division 3A  game, scheduled for Masterson Park, Ardcath on Friday evening, but for some inexplicable reason transferred to Dunsany, the home side came from behind to deprive St. Vincent's of two vital league points.

They say goals win games and this view was substantiated again when Dunsany stormed through the middle of the visitor's defence in the 27th minute to score a well taken goal to secure a narrow win.

St. Vincent's, aided by a lively breeze blowing diagonally up the pitch, opened brightly with Tommy Fields pointing in the first minute after receiving from Ryan Hand. This was soon cancelled out by a Dunsany point. Then followed a period of St. Vincent's dominance with points by Paddy Muldowney, (after good work by Danny Murphy), Robbie Lynch, (after receiving from Barry O'Sullivan) and T. Fields. In the 18th minute, Patrick McGill shrugged off his marker and drove in from the left only to see his goal-bound shot blocked. Fields tapped over the rebound. Further points came from Muldowney, Paddy Arnold, after a stong run through the middle, D. O'Sullivan (2f) and Bob Tallon. Dunsany hung in doggedly in this period, scoring 4 (1f) points. Half-time score : St. Vincent's 0-10, Dunsany 0-5.

St. Vincent's started the second half where they had left off in the first with  points by Mc Gill, Murphy , B. Tallon and D.O'Sullivan (f). Dunsany replied with 4 (1f) points of their own.

Then in the 22nd minute of the half, with St. Vincent's visibly tiring around the centre of the field, came the turning point of the game with Dunsany's Declan Smyth powering through the heart of the St. Vincent's defence and setting up a sequence of passes that ended up with a well taken goal. Then followed a further Dunsany point (f) before the home side struck for the winning goal in the 27th minute. This score was executed in almost  identical fashion to their earlier goal. St. Vincent's battled bravely to secure the winning goal with R. Lynch having a shot well saved and P. Mc Gill failing to get the ball through a forest of legs. Perhaps going for points might have been the better option. So ended a lively and exciting match.

While St. Vincent's performance was very much improved on their recent dismal showing against Oldcastle, there are areas still needing attention, namely ; solid defensive cover, even when attacking, better scoring average from play (55%) and securing more of their own kick-outs (48%).
