FL Div 4: Three goal Martin the difference

July 17, 2017

Drumconrath's Brendan Lyons

Drumconrath 4-16 Clonard 1-16

Drumconraths walking wounded fresh from their Pairc Tailteann, Tailteann Cup exploits on Thursday picked up 2 points in what was a meaning less A league game on Sunday morning.

The difference in surrounds was remarkable but Clonard are in the process of opening a fine new facility.

In this high scoring game when in the 1st half it looked as if the hosts where running away with the game leading 1-9 to 1-4 with 24 minutes gone and Drumconrath tailisman Stephan Crosby having retired injured, but a blistering finish to the half seen returning Conor Martin from USA in his 1st start since his home coming rattle the Clonard net on 26 and 28 minutes and then Christy Tighe pointed in injury time to give Drums an unlikely 3-5 to 1-9 half time lead.

A fine opening second half 10 minutes seen Daniel Byrne add 4 points to his 1st goal and then Martin hammered home his 3rd major to put Drums in a commanding 4-9 to 1-10 lead.

The remainder of this high scoring contest was played out even enough as Drumconrath pointed 7 times to Clonard's 6 to see Drumconrath win by 3 clear goals.

No doubt the upcoming Championship clash will be a lot tighter when surely Martin will be a closely marked man.
