Moynalty mourns Patsy Cahill

June 27, 2017

Two GAA greats. Trevor Giles with the late Patsy Cahill.

Gaels throughout the county and in particular his native Moynalty are deeply saddened at the sudden passing of Patsy Cahill, one of the GAA's greatest enthusiasts.

Patsy was an Honorary President of the Moynalty Club and gave lifelong service in support of Gaelic games right up to the present time.

He travelled far and wide in support of the Meath teams and was in Croke Park on Sunday and was delighted to see his beloved county take home the Leinster Junior title.

An outstanding full back and goalkeeper with Moynalty in his playing days, Patsy also served as team trainer and was the manager of many underage and adult sides in the club over several years.

He also served in many officer roles, including Club Chairman and played a significant part in the acquisition and development of the club's splendid new playing facilities.

When his playing days ended Patsy took up refereeing and was recognised as one of the finest and most respected match officials in the county, taking charge of several important games including underage and adult county finals.

In more recent years in his role as umpire with Moynalty's inter county referee Joey Curley, Patsy officiated at several important county and club matches at venues throughout the country.

This larger than life character will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to have known him.

Sincere sympathy to Patsy's wife Bunny and family at this sad time.
