Seneschalstown 1-14 Skryne 0-11

Going into this encounter in the Teach na Teamhrach Meath JFC Skryne would have been favourites on the back of their impressive start to the Championship as they won their opening 2 games while Seneschalstown could only look back on a 50% winning record.  And with 10 minutes gone this looked like being right on the money as the Tara outfit held a four point lead while they were leading Seneschalstown a merry dance around the field.  

However, from there on Seneschalstown got to grips with their opponents and gradually wore them down before eventually emerging with a six point victory as they showcased why they could well have a say in this marathon competition before its conclusion.  

There were 12 minutes on the clock before Seneschalstown managed to trouble the scoreboard operator and when they did manage a score it came from the boot of Paul McDonnell who got on the end of a move started when excellent hassling in defence forced a turnover.  James Meade added a second a minute later before Neil Darby narrowed the deficit to the minimum when he latched onto an Eddie Meade pass before knocking the ball over the bar.  

Skryne then pushed two points ahead again twice either side of another James Meade point, this one a free from out on the right.  Stephen Finnegan whose influence around the middle of the field was becoming more pronounced then took a short '45 before taking the ball back from his midfield partner Teean Cummins and curling over a fine score.  Flying wing forward Neil Darby added his second to draw Seneschalstown level while on 23 minutes the Yellow Furze outfit hit the front thanks to another James Meade point at the end of a move in which Ronan Conneely was centrally involved both in a defensive and offensive manner.

This proved to be the final score of the half and left them with the narrowest of leads, 0-07 to 0-06.  

The second half wasn't long on when the aforementioned Teean Cummins lit the venue up with two brilliant scores, the first a fine point and the second an exquisite goal when he galloped through the middle before unleashing an unstoppable drive which nearly burst the net.  James Meade then extended their lead when knocking over an effort from play before Skryne narrowed the gap with two points.  

On the three-quarter mark Eddie Meade managed to pick off a point which was then followed by Shane Clarke who opened his account having been freshly introduced off the bench, Clarke being set up by half time sub Damien McDonnell.  The Tara outfit though were far from dead and buried and after converting a free they created a brilliant goal scoring opportunity only for Robert Ruddy to pull off a stunning one on one save and from the ball breaking loose Seneschalstown worked it upfield to Shane Clarke who made no mistake as he pointed.  Clarke then added his third before Ross Howard tapped over to put 8 between the sides.  Skryne did manage two injury time points but 6 was still the margin by the time the final sounded.

Best for Seneschalstown were Teean Cummins, Stephen Finnegan and Ronan Conneely.
