Na Fianna's Anthony Kirby

From time to time, we hear stories of guys, who have hung up their boots, answering the call to line out one more time, and Na Fianna's go to man is the evergreen Anthony Kirby.

At 58 years young, Kirby togged out for the Na Fianna juniors as they took on Wolfe Tones in the JHC last weekend.

As joint manager along with his brother Sean, the duo found themselves in the precarious position of having only 14 players for the clash in Kildalkey.

Up step the former county hurler who had no hesitation in donning the boots and grabbing the goalkeeper's stick for the clash.

And the old saying that 'class is permanent' was evident as Kirby went on to keep a clean sheet in the game. Indeed, his eye is well kept in as he has regularly featured for the club's intermediate and junior sides in recent years.

The Kirby family are steeped in the GAA as Anthony's five daughters and one son David have all played with the club, while his nephews Barry, Mark and Peter Slevin are integral members of the current Na Fianna intermediate team.
