BALLINABRACKEY 1-11 SYDDAN 0-11

A GOAL from Chris O'Connor proved the difference as Syddan’s poor form continued in the league on Wednesday evening.

The former county player gave a Syddan defender the slip and shot low to the net on 39 minutes to push his side into a six point lead, 1-8 to 0-5.

Earlier the hosts had reduced a 0-6 to 0-1 interval deficit to just two points with the opening three scores of the second half.

Overall Ballinabrackey deserved their win as they dominated for long spells against a Syddan side who had to wait until the 27th minute for their only score of the first half, from Cormac Rowe.

O'Connor and Danny Quinn both registered a brace of points for the Bracks in the opening half during which they also hit nine wides.

Two Daire Rowe points and another from Ronan Mooney left just two between the sides four minutes into the second half during which Syddan had the advantage of the breeze.

There were still two separating the teams following a Kevin Traynor point on 37 minutes but then O'Connor struck for that goal, in between points from Damien Carroll. Heading into the final quarter the visitors were seven points clear.

With Daire Rowe prominent in the scoring Syddan gradually clawed their way back into contention but the game was in the third of five minutes of added time before the deficit was reduced to a goal following Rowe’s six point.
