Navan O’Mahonys 4-15 Seneschalstown 1-10
At a dry and humid Dunganny, O’Mahonys overcame arch rivals Seneschalstown in a very entertaining game of football to claim the Meath Under 17 Division 1 FL title.
From the throw in it was obvious to see this talented Navan O’Mahonys team with their pace and accuracy were ready for this final. With the talented defensive unit led by fullback Gerard Dillon and centre back Eimhin Power along with John Gorman, Niall Maloney, Conor Brady and Jamie Murray Seneschalstown had no easy passage through. The foundation was set with the midfield duo of Evan Coffey and Tom Collins.Their high fielding on display was at a very high standard giving O’Mahonys a platform for a 1-9 to 1-6 interval lead with all scores coming from play.
The second half was a replica of the first half with O’Mahonys scoring 2-3 within ten minutes. The speed, accuracy and movement of the forwards resulted in all six scoring.
The victorious O'Mahonys U17 squad
The O’Mahonys faithful were on for a very good nights entertainment. With about twenty minutes the 'Hoops' lost talented net minder Jack Caffrey to injury resulting with our ever reliable half back Jamie Murray stepping into the net. Ben Forde came onto the pitch to take the place in the half back line. Evan Brady and Mark Cohan were also introduced for Reece Callan and John Gorman.
It was a sweet victory for the management team who put a lot of work into training and preparing this talented group of players.
