B FL: Vincents go down to Kilmainham

May 29, 2017

Kieran Collins - St Vincents

In ideal conditions at Kilmainham on Sunday, the home side ran out easy winners over the visitors on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-7 in this fifth round of the B League. Notwithstanding that conditions were ideal for football, with the weather good and the pitch in excellent condition, this was a disappointing game.

Going forward, St. Vincent's, more often than not, chose the wrong option - attempting passes to marked colleagues and missing free team-mates, running blindly, etc. In the one incisive move created in the second half a penalty resulted but was well saved by the Kilmainham 'keeper. In defence  Conor White, Barry O'Sullivan and Enda Murphy impressed. At midfield Ronan Sheridan worked hard to secure ball all through the game.

St. Vincent's started brightly but failed to register a score. The home side scored their opening point from play in the 7th minute and between that and their second point in the 16th minute were equally as wayward as the visitors. A stray pass in midfield by St. Vincent's gave possession to Kilmainham and driving forward they secured the goal that set them up for the eventual win. Colm Hand scored St. Vincent's second point of the half from play.

At half-time Kilmainham led by 1-5 to 0-2.

In the second half the home side went on to score 8 points from play while the visitors replied with points by Eoin Hand (2), Kieran Collins and R.Lynch (2f).

Thanks are due to the Kilmainham Club for providing tea and snacks for the visiting team and supporters after the game.
