May 25, 2017

Kildalkey's Aaron Byas

Kildalkey 5-12 Longwood 3-15

Kildalkey welcomed Longwood on Tuesday evening for this Division 3HL game played in lovely conditions.

Exchanges were close in the first half with Kildalkey starting fast with 3 quick points from Arron Byas (2)and Paul Fagan before Evan Fitzgerald finished a penalty to the net after Brian Coneely was hauled down while he was bearing down on goals.

Then Longwood took over when getting a couple of goals of their own including a penalty. Kildalkey lost Evan Fitzgerald and Brian Coneely through injury and they were replaced by Eoin Potterton and Eoin Kelly.

Paul Fagan hit another lovely point and Andy Fagan got a point to keep the blues in touch. Francis Doran hit a 65 to close Kildalkey's scoring at half time but still trailed Longwood 2-6 to 1-6 after playing with the breeze.

Kildalkey needed to start well in the second half and that's what happened. Dan Fagan won a ball 30 yards out took on his man and off loaded to Byas who hit the net to lift the men in blue.

Andy Fagan then hit 3 in a row to keep the scoreboard ticking before substitute Eoin Kelly kept his eye on a long delivery and pulled to score a goal. Ross Flynn hit 2 very important frees from awkward angles to leave the scoreboard reading Kildalkey 3-11 to Longwoods 3-14 with 5 minutes remaining.

But Kildalkey never gave up and the impressive Paul Fagan rose highest from a long delivery gathered the ball and shot to the net to level the game. Longwood hit the front but in the last minute another substitute Colm Kane scored the winner with a low shot to beat Mick Healy.

Eoin Potterton split the posts with the last play of the game to send the Village support home happy.

It was some comeback from the men in blue against another senior team to leave them on top of the group with 4 wins from 4.
