Camogie: Big wins for Kilmessan

May 02, 2017

Kilmessan's Nadine Doyle

Kilmessan 6-19  Dunboyne 0-3

Kilmessan made it two from two in the senior championship when they easily overcame Dunboyne last Thurs evening.

It was tight in the opening quarter where both teams shared possession and failed to convert into scores but once Kilmessan broke the duck with a well taken goal from Ashling Walsh, the floodgates started to open and Dunboyne despite deploying county player Fiona O'Neill as a sweeper were unable to contain the Kilmessan attack

Everyone of the Kilmessan forwards scored from play, along with mid-fielder Walsh, racking up an impressive 6-16 from play but probably more impressive was their defensive efforts where they restricted Dunboyne to just a solitary point from play over the hour.

Kilmessan team and scorers: AM Dennehy, M. Horan, A. Donnelly, S. Thynne, L. O'Neill, A. Lynch, T. King (capt), A. Walsh 1-1, C. O'Leary, M. O'Leary 0-1, M. Thynne 2-3, S. Horan 0-3, L. Dennehy 0-1, N. Doyle 2-6, 0-3f, K. Ni Choileain 1-4

Meath junior camogie championship

Kilmessan 6-19   Dunderry 1-2

Having not been able to field a second championship for a couple of years, Kilmessan's second team got off to a perfect start with a convincing win over Dunderry. Fielding a second team gives a club the opportunity to give younger players a platform to step up to adult level from underage and it was the younger players that really stepped up on Sunday with four of Kilmessan's 2016 minor players contributing with 6-3 from play with Aine Brady in particular shining with an impressive 2-2

Kilmessan team and scorers: N. Carroll, E. Horan, A. Duffy, D. Donoghue, R. Duffy, N. Costello, B. Dennehy, L. Gorman 0-3, K. Clynch, K. Walsh 2-0, A. Brady 2-2, H. King 0-5, C. Grimes, J. Smyth 2-0, E. Harlin 0-1
