Na Fianna played Trim in a high scoring and entertaining hurling league division 1 game in Baconstown on Easter Monday morning.
Despite missing a number of players, Na Fianna will be disappointed not to have got a victory here. The term 'goals win matches' applied here as it was Trim's ability to get goals saw them eventually win out on a score line of 4-10 to 0-20.
Trim held a slender 1 point lead at the break, 2-6 to 0-11. Barry Slevin 3 points (1f), Ronan Byrne 3 points, Peter Slevin & Eoin Gorry 2 points each & Cian Slattery with a point were their teams first half scorers.
Trim hit two early goals in the second half to extend their lead to 8 at one stage. To their credit Na Fianna kept on battling and reduced the deficit to 2 points before Marcus Quinn blew the full time whistle. Barry Slevin accounted for 5 points (4f) of their second half tally with Sean Coffey & Cian Slattery with 2 points each also.
The winners fielded a number of younger players in this match. Cian Walsh, David Murtagh, Rory McGrath, Arnie McGee, Patrick Lennon and Garreth White were all to the fore as the town side secured two vital league points.
Best for Na Fianna was Daniel Gleeson, Peter Slevin, Barry Slevin, Ronan Byrne, Sean Coffey and Cian Slattery.
