St Vincents Curraha 5-7 Killary Emmets 4-8

St Vincents Curraha were lucky enough to escaped with a narrow home win against their north Meath visitors Killary Emmets in round 4 of the under 17 division 3 league. Having lead by 12 points at half time St Vincents Curraha had to cling on desperately as the lead was whittled away during the final half hour.

St Vincents Curraha began well enough with a brace of points by Nigy Hand before the visitors register their first score. The home side increased the lead significantly with points from Leo Corry (two) and Diarmuid Moriarty (one) before the influential Conor Harford cut through twice in the space of two minutes to fine the net. This put Vincents Curraha firmly in control. Killary Emmets didn't give up and with the hard-working trio of Evan Hoey, Padraig Dillion and Christopher Deans they rallied well and hit 1- 3 without reply midway through the half. St Vincents Curraha eventually stopped the haemorrhage and managed to smash in three more goals before half time with Niall McLarnon, Diarmuid Moriarty (penalty) and Nigy Hand all finding the net. This left the half time account 5-6 to 2-3 in favour of St Vincents Curraha.

The half time break seemed to rejuvenate the visitors as they pursued directly running at the St Vincents Curraha defence which reaped rewards. They hit 1-5 without reply as the home side struggled to stem the tide. A single point is all St Vincents Curraha could muster in the second period through Jack Byrne. The visitors on the other hand finished strongly as they found the net for their fourth goal late on to leave just two points between the sides with minutes remaining. St Vincents Curraha got a couple chances to seal it too but squandered both opportunities. The referee's final whistle came to their rescue as they held out for a two-point victory.
