March 28, 2017

Michael Flood - St Brigids

St Brigids 2-9 Trim 1-12

St Brigids and Trim shared the points in this Div 3 match at Ballinacree top of the table Trim came to North Meath expecting an easy game and it looked like they were going to do just that from the 7th minute when they registered their 1st point the Trim side dominated and but for stout defending from the Brigids defence Trim would have being out of sight by the quarter way stage.

It took St Brigids 13 minutes to register their 1st point from the hard working Michael Flood, Trim continued to press and were taking excellent scores from all over the field, St Brigids got their 2ndpoint of the half on 27 minutes from Dylan Tighe on 28 minutes the Trim corner forward got a red card for a foul on Shane Gilsnean but Trim finished out the half with a well taken point to lead 0-8 to 0-2.

Trim started the 2nd half at a blistering pace and had 1-1 on the board by the 3rd minute to give them a commanding lead of 10pts

The Ballinacree side did not throw in the towel and 2pts from Joseph Blake and 1pt from Kevin Gilsnean steadied the ship, By the 10th min. St Brigids were controlling the mid-field area and with a good supply of ball into the forwards gave the opportunity to Peter Moore to finish a goalmouth tussle to the net Moore followed with a good point while Kevin Gilsnean got his 2nd point of the half to leave just 3pts between the sides.

St Brigids were now dominant and when Joseph Blake was put through on goal he was taken down for a penalty Blake took the spot kick which was well saved by the keeper Blake finished the rebound to the net but the ref blew for a second penalty which Blake duly blasted to the top of the net Trim responded well and an excellent move up field resulted in a point, Ml Flood won possession from the kick out and tore up field and blasted over the bar to put the Brigids in front for the first time.

Trim won possession from the kick out and the result was another point to level again with injury time being played a long cross field ball found Dylan Tighe who kicked a superb point from the side line to put the home side in front again but Trim were not finished and an attack up field resulted in a free which they duly converted to level matters. Probably a fair result Trim got a scare and St Brigids showed a tremendous fighting spirit.
