March 21, 2017

Kilbride's David O'Leary

Slane / St Marys 0-11 to Kilbride 3-12

Kilbride U19 team produced an emphatic performance in Donore on Sunday to open their league campaign.

Considering all the bad weather the pitch at Donore was in great condition and credit to all. After an early morning pitch inspection the match was switched to Donore

On the pitch right from the off the Kilbride lads were flying. David O'Leary had Kilbride first chance that came back off the upright with only 10 seconds on the clock. There intentions were evident from the off. It was a joy to watch and they were 1-2 up after 10 minutes as Jamie McWeeney goaled after Slane/ St Marys failed to clear a 45.

The home side were getting little change from Kilbride 6 backs. Scores were hard to come by and they finally got off the mark on 15 minutes with a pointed free.  Credit to The home side they continued to scrap for every ball but Kilbride lads were dominate and should have been further ahead but were a little sloppy in the final third.

The home side continued to break down the Kilbride defence and were starting to get rewarded for their persistence through pointed frees. The home team were given a life line when Kilbride were reduced to fourteen men after Kilbride full back received his second yellow card.

This gave the home team hope but the 14 men of Kilbride were not going to be phased by the deficit in numbers and continued to play an exciting brand of football and reeled off some excellent scores.

Half time. Slane /St Marys 0-5  Kilbride 1-7

Into the second half and facing into the breeze they were expecting the home team to come at them from the off but it was again the visitors who started off as they started the game and killed this a a contest as they dominated the first ten minutes and registered a further  1-4 to go 12 ahead. You could see no way back but in fairness to the home team they got going again and reeled off some fine points to reduce it to 8 points.

As the Kilbride legs tired the home team were dominating possession but it was Kilbride who were going to have the final say when Finn Hughes found the net with five to play. Both team exchanges points before the end as Kilbride were convincing winners on a score line of Slane / St Marys 0-11 to Kilbride 3-12
