Trim 2-10 Boardsmill 0-8
Trim senior hurlers opened their league campaign against near neighbours and rivals Boardsmill in Trim on Sunday morning. The game was played in very challenging conditions after three days of rain and with a strong wind blowing toward the town end. Boardsmill won the toss and opted to play with the wind in the first half. The opening few minutes were frenetic with Boardsmill winning a '65 but failed to score and Trim then breaking up the field and striking the post from a Peter Farrell effort.
The game continued apace with the Trim defence under pressure, The first score fell to Boardsmill in the fifth minute with a well taken point. Both sides continued to push hard but the next score did not come until the fourteenth minute when Neil Heffernan pointed for Trim. Boardsmill then put two more scores up through frees before Neil Heffernan again scored two from play leaving the sides level. With a minute to the break Boardsmill again went ahead through a free leaving the scores at four points to three at the break.
After the break Trim levelled again through Heffernan and went ahead for the first time through a Ciaran Joyce goal. Trim consolidated their lead with another point soon after from Peter Farrell. Trim were on a roll then and further points from Arnie McGee and Luke Moran put Trim in a great position, Moran's point being memorable as it was from inside his own half. Another goal from Damien McGee and a point from Ciaran Joyce left Trim in a comfortable position.
The Trim forwards were in their stride and they were well supported by their backs who continued to marshal Boardsmill and restrict their scoring opportunities to a total of four points in the second half, two of those from frees. Trim pressed on and further points from Damien and Arne McGee wrapped up the game for Trim.
A good start for the new management team of Neil Cole and Damien Loren.
