Ladies MFC: Meath advance to semi final
20 March 2017
Ailbhe Leahy heads for the Carlow goal
Meath 5-6 Carlow 1-4
Meath Minors opened their Leinster Championship when they took on Carlow in the quarter final of the championship in Éire Óg Carlow.
Meath split the posts in the opening minute and this was quickly followed by a goal. Meath put up another point before Carlow registered their first score. Carlow pointed again to leave a goal in the difference. A challenge in the box gave Carlow a penalty which was dispatched past Meath keeper Judy Bobbett. This was to be the only time in the match that Carlow drew level with the Royals. The game was played at a fast and furious pace and Carlow were unfortunate not to convert a number of scoring chances. Meath capitalised on this and with team work being the order of the day Meath put a further 2 - 03 on the board before Carlow pointed again. A disallowed goal for Carlow brought an end to the 1st half.
The second half resumed with Carlow not giving up and unlucky again not to take the chances they were given.
That said Meath played with great team work, took their scores and fired 2 - 01 to Carlow’s 0 - 01 in the second half. This was a tough, physical game which will stand in good stead for the girls as they head into a semi-final. The draw for this takes place later this week. All in all a good day out for Eamon Murray and his charges!
