Camogie: Double for Kilmessan

October 24, 2016

Kilmessan's Aileen Donnelly

Kilmessan 3-17  Dunboyne 0-6

Smarting from their Leinster final loss to a strong Johnstownbridge side last week, the Kilmessan girls were eager to end the year on a high note and duly did that overcoming Dunboyne by 20 points.

Dunboyne won the the toss and opted to play against the gale force wind however it was to their detriment as Kilmessan were rapidly out of the blocks and racked up quick scores from Midfielders Caoimhe O'Leary and Megan Thynne. Dunboyne had no answer to Kilmessan's pace and movement up front and had no option but to concede too many frees which Aileen Donnelly duly slotted over, finishing with a tally of 1-10. Score of the match came in the first half  from full forward Katie Ní Choileain who when isolated on the Dunboyne full back after a great pass from Kelly Gorman quickly rounded her player and sent the ball to the right side netting giving Evelyn Mc Govern, the Dunboyne keeper no chance. Ashling Mc Loughlin scored Kilmessan's first goal after she broke through the Dunboyne defence after excellent solo run. Donnelly got the 3rd when a 50m free coming at pace deceived Mc Govern and ended up in the back of the net. By half time the match was over as a contest.

Things did get better for Dunboyne in the second half and it ended up an even enough with teams matching each other in attacks. However Dunboyne lacking creativity up front and continuing to concede frees in their back line could not eat into Kilmessan's lead.

Best for Kilmessan were defenders Ailbhe Lynch and Tracy King midfield pairing of Megan Thynne and Caoimhe O'Leary and half forward Ashling Mc Loughlin who finished top scorer from play with 1-1. Best for Dunboyne were Fiona O'Neill and Lisa Carroll in defence and Tricia Moran and Sinead Hackett up front.
