U15 HL Div 1: Two from two for Ratoath

September 26, 2016

Ratoath midfielder Ruairi Coulter

Ratoath 6-14 Kildalkey 1-7

A comprehensive victory for Ratoath's under-15 hurlers to make it two from two.

Jack Flynn marked his return with 1-4 in a Man of the Match performance with seven different scorers showing how much of a team display this was. Fionn Murphy bagged 2-3, his clever batted finish one of the highlights while younger brother Sean grabbed a couple himself.

The latter's scrambled finish from close range helped Ratoath into a 1-10 to 1-2 half-time lead with a battling Kildalkey side right in it with a strong breeze to come at their backs.

That goal was the only score from play a solid Ratoath defence conceded where Marc Donnelly was sweeping superbly and Sam Coughlan and Jason Farrell were putting their team on the front foot.

Ruairi Coulter and Cian Kelly got through an amount of work in midfield and some top quality scores flowed, Jack Flynn hitting three, Fionn Murphy firing over from distance and Harry Haskins hitting a sweet point after dancing clear of a couple of tackles.

Facing into that strong breeze in the second half, Ratoath opened up and when Jack Lanigan cut a brilliant sideline ball to the back post, Sean Murphy finished to the net. Another brace of fine points from Harry Haskins stood out as Ratoath dominated with good, early ball and strong support play, Kildalkey having no answer to Fionn Murphy's switch to the corner.

With Alex O'Kane making an impact at wing-back, the goals flowed, keeper turned poacher Tom Roddy finishing off a big win in style.

To only concede one point from play in that second half is testament to a superb defensive effort.
