MFC Div 3: Opening win for Drumconrath/Meath Hill

August 28, 2016

Drumconrath's Daniel Byrne

Drumconrath/Meath Hill 4-12 East Meath Gaels 0-16

Drumconrath/Meath Hill came out on top after a fine 2nd half performance with 14 players in the 1st round of the Minor Football Championship played in Meath Hill. The new combination of East Meath Gaels (St Patrick's and St Marys) can be proud of their display in their 1st game and are sure to trouble other teams later in the Competition

Drumconrath/Meath Hill's Meath U16 Captain Paddy Matthews got a goal in 1st half which leveled the game after the visitors had the better start and were ahead 0-6 to 0-3 at the time.

Daniel Byrne scored four frees in 1st half, Paul Carolan got the other 2 scores in as the sides retired level DMH 1-6 EMG 0-9 at the break. Robbie McEntaggart  was sent off 5 mins from half time after receiving a second yellow card.

Half time substitute Cathal Bennett made a good impression for the home side but the visitors using the extra player to good effect came out all guns blazing and scored the first 3 points of the second half before a great flowing move from DMH ended with Daniel Byrne finishing to the net.

DMH began to dominate and started to pull away with points from Bennett, Byrne and  Thomas Duff.  Two further goals from Byrne and Paul Carolan put the home side in control but East Meath continued to press and scored some fine points.

Best for the home side were Eoin Muldoon in goals with Graham Boylan, Cathal  Dunne and James McMahon all doing well.

Up front Ryan Carry, Jack McMahon and  Daniel Byrne all doing well.
