Kilbride celebrate in Dunganny

Kilbride 3-15 Na Fianna 0-10

This was the Kilbride U14 teams 4th final in 12 Months. After a very successful Spring League and Summer league the Kilbride lads lost both finals to the narrowest of margins to Kilmainhamwood and Ballinabrackey respectively and they had also lost an U13 League Final to Dunsany after extra time last December.

So this victory was sweet and well deserved for this Kilbride team. It was clear that after the many disappointments they were hungry to make the breakthrough and they saved their best for this U14 Championship. Kilbride beat a strong Ballinabrackey team in a thrilling Semi final match by 2-14 to 1-13 away from home last week to set-up a Final vs Na Fianna on Wednesday evening.

At the fourth attempt Kilbride were not going to be denied and they proved too strong for a gallant Na Fianna team in this Group D Championship final. Both teams made a bright start and traded scores to leave it 3 points each after 10 mins. Kilbride then had a purple patch and added 2-3 over the next 15 minutes to Na Fianna's 3 points. Leaving the Half time score at 2-6 to 0-5 in favour of the Kilbride outfit.

This was a game full of great skill and movement and Kilbride started the second period as they had in the first and pegged on 5 more points in the first 10 minutes and began to take control of the game. But Na Fianna did not give up and fought for every ball adding some fine score from play.

But this was to be Kilbride's day and they continued to pull away finishing with an excellent score line of 3-15 to 0-10. There were great scenes of celebration after the final whistle for the Kilbride lads as they had finally got their hands on the Silverware.
