FL Div 2: Ballinlough remain in contention

Ballinlough won this hard fought match in Walterstown to keep there chances alive of a play off spot in Division 2.

Walterstown started the stronger of the teams and raced into a 1-3 to 0-1 after 15 minutes, Ballinlough looked sluggish after their recent fixture congestion, but slowly got themselves into the game with a brace of points from Seanie Gerathy from play, free from Colm Mallon and a well worked score from Simon Deevy to add to Tommy McCullen's opening score left it 1-3 to 0-5 after 20 minutes.

Colm Mallon converted another free to level it, but Walterstown responded with the next three scores. Mallon converted another free on the stroke of half time to leave it 1-6 to 0-7.

Ballinlough started off the 2nd half with an excellent point 30 seconds in from Micheal Geragthy, Walterstown responded straight away with a free to bring it back to a two point game. Midfielder Gary Reilly slotted over from distance two minutes later but wWlterstown again reduced it back to a two point game.

The teams traded scores, Micheal Gerathy adding another two impressive points to leaving the visitors trailing 0-11 to 1-10 after 47 minutes. Then the breakthrough came a minute later with a well worked move finished off to the net by Simon Deevy. Deevy was involved again a minute late with the decisive hand pass to Colm Mallon who finished to the net. Two goals in two minutes for the 'Lough' left it 2-11 to 1-10. Walterstown tried to get back into it, but kicked sevens wides in the remaining ten minutes, mostly from far out and acute angles brought on by resolute defending by Ballinlough .They did manage to close the gap to a goal on 53 mins, but Colm Mallon got the last score from play to secure the win for Ballinlough.
