FL Div 2: Goals give Ratoath the edge over Castletown

Castletown travelled to Ratoath on Saturday evening to face their senior opponents to contest round 12 of the A league. Ratoath were fast out of the blocks and were ahead 1-2 to no score after six minutes. Darren Finney scored two frees in quick succession on nine and ten minutes to put Castletown on the scoreboard. Tommy Smith scored Castletowns third point on eleven minutes to leave two points in it. Ratoath never let Castletown gain any momentum and scored two quick points on 13 and 14 minutes. Darren Finney scored his third free on fifteen minutes. It was point for point in the last 10 minutes of the first half Ratoath scored their sixth point on 22 minutes, Stephen Duffy scored Castletowns fifth point on 23 minutes. Kevin Ross scored Castletowns final point of the first half from a free and Ratoath scored two points to leave the halftime score - Castletown 0-6 Ratoath 1-8.

The second half started similarly to how the first half with Ratoath fast out of the blocks and scoring a point within the first minute. Darren Finney pointed Castletowns seventh point on 32 minutes. Castletown were awarded a 50 which Robert Hoey kicked over on 34 minutes. A minute later Shane Hoey popped over another point for the visitors. Anytime Castletown would score a point or two in succession Ratoath would fire back with scores of their own. This was the story of the game as just as Castletown got within three points of the homeside Ratoath broke through and scored a goal which knocked the wind of the visitors sails. On 38, 40 and 41 minutes Ratoath kicked over points to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Tommy Smith scored Castletowns tenth point on 42 minutes. Darren Finney scored points on 48 and 51 minutes from a free. The last ten minutes of the game was score for score and that was the story of the game with the goals just giving Ratoath the edge at vital times in the game. Tommy Smith scored Castletowns thirteenth point on 55 minutes with Ratoath pointing a minute later. Darren Finney pointed on 57 minutes and Kevin Ross pointed on 58 minutes. Castletowns last score came from Darren Finney on 60 minutes. The referee played almost 5 minutes of additional time with Ratoath scoring three points in that period. The full time score finished Castletown 0-16 Ratoath 2-19.
