Seneschalstown celebrate

Seneschalstown 6-7 Trim 0-4

Seneschalstown deservedly claimed the Meath LGFA U12 Div. 2 championship with an outstanding performance in Dunganny on Tuesday evening.

Cheered on by the large crowd in attendance, the Furze girls were on the front foot from the throw in and made the best possible start when Tara Traynor gaoled in the first minute. Charlie Murray opened her account 3 minutes later with a point from play as the furze girls were dominating possession. Trim found it hard to get their hands on the ball as the half back line of Katie McDonnell, Robyn Murray and Meadhbh Hickey along with the midfield pairing of Charlie Murray and Megan Clarke were winning everything in that area. Anything that did get past them was dealt with excellently by Amy Kennedy and Molly Keating at the back.

Trim were also finding it hard to get out of defence with the forward quintet of Abby Hewitt, Traynor, Kellie Stafford, Claire Finnegan and Niamh Mulvany tackling well and not letting them out easily. Charlie Murray then extended the lead in the sixth minute after a fine cross field pass from Traynor which was followed up a minutes later with a point from Twin sister Robyn. Megan Clarke was next on the score sheet when following a knock down from Niamh Mulvany, Clarke set off and although lost control of the ball she had the intelligence to drive the ball home soccer style. Next on the score sheet was Katie McDonnell who after intercepting a clearance drove forward to score an excellent point to leave the score 2-4 to 0-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Carley and Orla Lynch were introduced at the start of the second quarter in the forwards and like those the replaced competed for every ball that came their way.

Trim upped the tempo after the change of ends and scored 2 points within the first 2 minutes of the restart and had a few other opportunities. The Furze girls settled and with Ali Clarke finding her player with the kickouts, they were rewarded with a superb Charlie Murray point in the sixteenth minute. After a good solo run along the right Murray lofted over a superb point from near the sideline. Trim had the last score of the quarter to leave the HT score at 2-5 to 0-3.

Kerri Laverty and Sophie Sharpe entered the fray for the third quarter and give their all for the cause. The Furze girls were further boosted when Charlie Murray scored her first goal two minutes after the resumption. In the twenty fourth minute Claire Finnegan got in on the scoring act with a fine point from play and although Trim replied with a point of their own Robyn Murray with a point and Traynor with her second goal had the score at 4-7 to 0-4 at the end of the third quarter.

Lauren Lynch, Lauren McGuirk and Ava Fitzsimons came on for the fourth quarter and all three performed well. Charlie Murray added her second goal in the thirty second minute before Traynor completed her hat trick and the scoring for the evening in the thirty fourth minute. Six minutes later the final whistle blew on a superb performance and a deserved victory in a very sporting game.

Before any celebrations began, the girls lined up in the middle of the pitch to shake hands with their opponents which was in keeping with the spirit the game was played in.

After the game Meath County Registrar Patricia Mead presented captain Tara Traynor with the cup.

This victory was the culmination of a superb effort from a great panel of players. Along with the twenty players who took part on the night, 3 girls, Nicola Mongey, Holly Knowles and Laura Masterson couldn't be there for one reason or another.

The management team of Catherine Traynor, Dearbhla Clarke and Ollie Mulvany would like to thank the girls for their dedication and effort and thank the parents, grandparents and all who got the girls to training and matches and for their support during the season.

As each club has to provide two people to help out at finals, we would like to thank our two volunteers Pauric Traynor and Leo Stafford who answered the call.
