B FL Div 2: Impressive scoring in Duleek

May 24, 2016

Duleek Bellewstown's Cormac and Pauric McGroggan

Duleek-Bellewstown 5-15 St. Colmcilles 3-21

Duleek-Bellewstown and St. Colmcilles could not be separated at the end of this every entertaining high scoring match on Monday evening - though at the final whistle there was some controversy as the home side management team and spectators had what they thought recorded a one point victory but the Referee Patrick Neilis had the sides level and as we all know its what's in the Referees book at the end of a match that counts. Nevertheless this was a very entertaining match on a lovely sunny evening in Duleek.

Duleek-Bellewstown were first off the mark with a point from Padraig McGroggan before a mix up in the D/B goal mouth ended with the ball in the back of the net for St. Colmcilles. Wayne Noone pulled one back for D/B before the visitors went on a ramp page and scored 1-7 before D/B went on their own scoring spree with 2-1 from Padraig McGroggan, Darren Mills 0-2, and one each from Evan Ryan, Robbie Clarke and Aaron Reilly which left the side level at 2-7 each, with 5 mins remaining in the first half. The visitors pulled away again went into the break 5 pts ahead.

Half-Time: Duleek-Bellewstown 2 -7 St Colmciles 2 -12

On the restart D/B picked away at the victors lead through points from Wayne Noone, Padraig McGroggan and Tony Andrews (2) but St. Colmcilles replied with points of their own and on the 10th minute scored their 3rd goal leaving them 3-14 to 2-11 ahead. With 5 further points from St. Colmcilles and 4 pts for D/B through Cormac McGroggan, Darren Mills (0-2) and Kieran McGroggan left 7 pts between the sides with 6 mins remaining. Darren Mills then hit the back of the St. Colmcilles net and a further point from Cormac McGroggan left 3 pts between the sides with time running out. The visitors scored 2 further points to leave their total at 3-12 which looked like a winning score but with 2 goals in less than 2 minutes D/B managed to pull this out of the bag and at the final whistle thought they had recorded a one point victory, but the Referee was of a different opinion and had recorded it as a draw, which was disappointing for the home side but on reflection a share of the points was probably a fair result in this highly entertaining match.
