St Vincents/Curraha 2-11 Drumconrath/Meath Hill 2-8

St Vincents/Curraha claimed the under 14 division 4 league title with a three point victory over Drumconrath/Meath Hill at Pairc Tailteann on Thursday evening. The victory was secured on the back of an outstanding second half team performance where the victors overcame a four point half time deficit to win in the end by three points.

The north Meath side were the first to settle and raced into a three point lead before Conor Early kicked St Vincents/Curraha opening point. Indeed, Drumconrath/Meath Hill had the better of most of the first half exchanges with scores coming easier than that of their opponents. They held a 1-5 to 0-2 lead mid-way through the half. They were denied another certain goal by an outstanding save from St Vincents/Curraha's goalkeeper Conor McAleese with a great reflex save. St Vincents/Curraha worked hard to stem the tide with Gary Tuite pulling most of the strings from centre back. They were thrown a life line with a well worked goal which Adam Tuite finished to the net mid-way through the half. However, Drumconrath pulled clear again before the break with some well taken points leave them 1-7 to 1-3 ahead.

The second half saw a rejuvenated St Vincents/Curraha team. They dominated the first twenty minutes of the second half doing enough scoring in this in period to secure the league title. In fact the half time deficit was wiped out inside the opening five minutes with Adam and Gary Tuite, Diarmuid Moriarty (2) and James Dillion all adding points. With the score now level St Vincents/Curraha began to get on top throughout the pitch. At the back Matthew Webb, Matthew Brennan, Ben Heagney and the outstanding Gary Tuite snuffed out any threat on goal. Up front Adam Tuite and James Dillion and Conor Early began to impose themselves. This dominance was rewarded with about ten minutes left when after a great move involving Diarmuid Moriarty, Gary and Adam Tuite, James Dillion riffled to the net to leave St Vincents/Curraha six points clear. In fairness to the Drumconrath/Meath Hill lads who hadn't score in this twenty minute period they didn't give up and when they slotted home a penalty with five minutes to go they found new energy. St Vincents/Curraha were now made to fight hard to the end to survive the challenge. Robert McGovern steady the nerves for the victors with a long range point to maintain a four point lead. Drumconrath/Meath Hill cancelled this out late on, but St Vincents/Curraha held on to a three point lead to claim the victory.
