FL Div 4: 'Wood dish out another ten-point beating

May 22, 2016

Kilmainhamwood's Alan Carolan

St Marys 0-7 Kilmainhamwood  1-14

Kilmainhamwood completed their second ten-point victory in the space of a week; following their championship win over Drumconrath, a depleted North - Meath side travelled up to Donore for Round 7 of the A League. But the game was not as easy as the score line suggests, the 'Wood opened the scoring through a David Russell free, before the home side kicked their first via a free also.

Kilmainhamwood could not convert their first half chances, as they kicked several wides before three unanswered scores from, Conor Kiernan, whom slotted over from the side-line, goalkeeper turned forward Damien Russell kicked his first of the match and the third from the fist of Paddy Carolan, put the 'Wood three up heading into half time, but it was St. Mary's that finished the half the strongest when they registered three scores of their own, one from a free and two from play, to leave the sides heading into half-time level on a score line of 0-04 each.

The 'Wood introduced Stephen Kiernan and Padraig Owens at half time, but it was St. Mary's who kicked the first of the half, to take a one point lead for the first time in this match; this was the best it got for the home side, as the introduction of the two forwards at the break, helped Kilmainhamwood get to grips with this match and they kicked an answered 1-10, the goal coming from Paddy Carolan, and points from Paul Carolan, three for Owens, two for Kiernan, one from Paddy Carolan, a second for Damien Russell and two for his twin brother David.

But it was St. Marys who kicked the last two scores of the match, to put ten between the sides. St. Mary's were reduced to fourteen near the end when their full forward was send off for a second bookable offence. Kilmainhamwood ran out ten point victors on a score line of 1-14 to 0-07.

Best for the visitors were Cathal Bennett, Jude Collins, Sean Mulligan and Paddy Carolan.
