May 04, 2016

Kilmessan's Katie Ni Choileain

Kilmessan 0-14 Kiltale 2-7

With passion and physicality aplenty it was Kilmessan that progressed with the bare minimum to spare over neighbours Kiltale. The first half favoured Kilmessan as they went into the break with a 5 point lead. This didn't phase Kiltale as they pushed on and with Fia O'Brien netting twice the girls in Maroon and Green confidence grew. Kilmessan kept their cool however and kept the score board ticking over with points from Megan Thynne and Ashling Mc Loughlin sealing the victory for Kilmessan.

Best for Kiltale were their three county stars Louise Donoghue and the O'Brien sisters Cheyenne and Fia and best for Kilmessan were Tracy King and Maeve O'Leary.

Kiltale Report

Kilmessan 0-14 to Kiltale 2-7

Pitch perfect conditions, light breeze and beautiful sunny conditions. Kilmessan started quick with 3 unanswered points. Looked to be moving well and showing for the ball ahead of their opponents Kiltale. Finally Kiltale get off the mark with a point, making it 0-3 to 0-1 in Kilmessan's favour. Both teams traded points but Kilmessan were more clinical in the...ir free taking which ensured they stayed in front.

Kiltale worked hard all over the pitch and didn't let Kilmessan have it all their own way. Kiltale found it harder to get scores and missed frees. Halftime score 0-8 to 0-3 but despite the 5 point gap Kiltale looked very much in this game. Second half resumed and Kilmessan were happy to slot over the points and were looking comfortable. However the Kiltale defence prevented Kilmessan from having shots on goal which forced to go for points. Kiltale backs were very much in command from Georgina O'Reilly in goals, Aideen Smith, Alanna Madden, Roisin Mallee, Michelle Mc Nally, Cheyanne O'Brien and Ciara Mallee with Louise Donoghue coming back to help out in defence.

Kiltale always looked threatening despite the lead Kilmessan had. Finally they got the break through with the goal through Fia O'Brien. Kiltale looked more confident and kept the pressure on. However Kilmessan responded with a point. Another high ball in and guess who pops up to blast a goal past the keeper, none other than Fia O'Brien. Shannon Mulligan stood up to take a fine point from a 21 yard free, followed by a superb free from distance from Ciara Donoghue. This left just one point in it with no time left on the clock. Heartbreak at the end for Kiltale.

Very exciting game to watch with Kiltale outscoring Kilmessan in the 2nd half. Best for Kiltale was the full team but a special mention goes to Ciara Mallee, Shannon Mulligan, Mairead Mc Cabe for really lifting their game and showing grit and determination through out the match.
