SLANE 0-6 ST VINCENTS 0-9
Slane lost their first game of this years league as they lost out to St Vincents in a physical encounter in Toddy Harding Park.
Both clubs will be hoping to be involved at the business end of the season but it was the Ardcath men that showed the early promise. St Vincents raced into a 3pt lead before Slane responded through a Danny Carolan free and a well worked Alan Harding point. The game was being played at a strong pace and Slane were in control around midfield with the returning Tommy Macken and Barry Carolan dominating. This dominance was not converted into scores however and St Vincents regained their 2pt lead before B. Carolan finished the scoring for the first half.
Half Time Slane 0-3 St Vincent's 0-5
The second half started with a period of Vincents control as they extended their lead to 3pts once more. Slane's good work was being let down by handling errors that are to be expected at this time of the year. Vincents went 4pts clear before Slane came back into life with two quickfire points from Eoin Feeley. This narrowed the gap to 2pts before Slane felt aggrieved for not being awarded a penalty as full forward D. Carolan was brought down. St Vincents seen themselves reduced to 14 men for the remaining 8 minutes as they had a player see red for striking. This rallied Slane but again they just lacked a killer edge in front of goal as St Vincents countered and widened the gap again. Slane had goal chances but had to settle for one more point from Harding.
A Slane team that was missing a few key players and had debutants and returning players can be pleased with their efforts for the most part of this entertaining game.
