FL Div 4: No separating neighbours Kilmainhamwood and Moynalty

Kilmainhamwood's Harry Corbally

Kilmainhamwood 2-06 Moynalty 1-09

A North Meath derby between Kilmainhamwood and Moynalty was the opener for both teams in Round 1 of the 2016 A League. The game was originally fixed for Kilmainhamwood, but a Saturday evening inspection deemed the pitch unplayable and the fixture was changed to a Moynalty pitch which was in good condition considering the harsh conditions that have been felt over the past number of weeks.

As the cliché goes, it's a game of two halves and that definitely was the situation in this North Meath derby, the 'Wood made a strong start and played all the football in the first half, four Kiernan frees, two Russell points and two well taken goals from wing-forward Harry Corbally, left Kilmainhamwood heading into half time eight points to the good on a score line of 2-06 to 1-01.
But after the resumption, Moynalty took advantage of a very strong breeze and started to put the pressure on a very strong Kilmainhamwood defence. Moynalty's goal opportunities were limited as a 'Wood defence led by full back Padraig Barber, Philip Moran and Alan Carolan, sustained the pressure with great effort and two one on one saves from keeper Padraig Carolan ensured Kilmainhamwood would at least get something out of this match.

The 'Wood failed to score in the second half, but a great team effort ensured the 'Wood would at least make Moynalty work for the result, and they did to their credit, they kept chipping away and soon outscored Kilmainhamwood eight points to no score in the second half to gain a credible draw, with the match finishing 2-06 to 1-09, both teams probably feel they could have come away with full points, but a draw was probably the fairest result.

Best for the 'Wood were Padraig Barber, Jude Collins and Philip Moran in defence with Michael Shankey and Paul Carolan putting in good shifts in attack.
