Meath Hill 1-10  Trim 0-10

Meath Hill began their All County A League campaign at home to Trim on a bitterly cold Saturday evening. Meath Hill's Prunty pitch was feeling the effects of all the wet weather that had preceded the match, with both teams slipping a lot throughout the game. 
After an absence of 25 years from Division 2 football, both players and supporters were optimistic of how they would cope with the big step up in competitiveness from Division 3. The Meath Hill men didn't disappoint with a very good performance against a young Intermediate Trim side.

Meath Hill were aided with moderate wind in the first half and got the first four scores of the game, with a pointed Chris Yorke free and two points from Keith Ginnity. The most important of the scores was a goal from Chris Yorke who put his fist to a pointed effort from Pierce McGrath which had dropped short. With Meath Hill's defence holding strong and Dominic Yorke pulling off a good save on the 8th minute, it wasn't until the 15th minute that Trim finally got off the mark. Both teams traded points until the end of the first half with Chris Yorke scoring a long range effort from close to the sideline to end the half with a personal tally of 1-04 (0-03 frees).

The second half began differently as Trim now aided with the wind got the first two scores of the half. Ian Malone got Meath Hill of the mark in 9th minute of the second half after picking up a loose ball from a 45 which had dropped short. Meath Hill was finding it more difficult to hold onto possession in the second half with Trim gaining the upper hand but they couldn't fully capitalise with a lot of poor wides. After a scoreless period of 11 minutes Chris Yorke hit a pointed free to steady the ship for the North Meath men to extend their advantage to 4 points. A final Meath Hill point came again from Chris Yorke on the 57th minute which was followed by two Trim points to close the gap to 3 points at the end of normal time.

Trim was desperate to get a goal in injury time and would have done so only for two outstanding saves from Dominic Yorke. The first a low effort to the goalkeeper's left and with the last effort of the game somehow Dominic got his fingertips to the ball to push it onto the crossbar. Finally after 4 minutes of injury time the referee blew the final whistle with Meath Hill holding out for a 1-10 to 0-10 victory. This victory should give Meath Hill a good confidence boost for the tough fixtures that will come in the future weeks.

Best for Meath hill where Chris Yorke finishing with a tally of 1-07 (0-05 frees) and Dominic Yorke with four crucial saves throughout the game.
