Schools: Crehan and Michael the heroes for Dunboyne

Dunboyne National School claimed the Allianz Meath Cumann Na nBunscol Girls division 1 title in dramatic fashion at Pairc Tailteann. This replay needed extra time to separate two well matched teams.

Dunboyne NS 2-2 Cannistown NS 0-7 (after extra time)

For most of the game Cannistown were the dominant team and will wonder how they eventually lost this final.

Dunboyne played with the wind in the opening half but only registered a point, the opening score of the game, through Rachel Daly. Ciara Blake levelled for Cannistown and further points from Sarah Muldoon and Emma Byrne saw the girls in Black and Amber go in at the break 0-3 to 0-1 ahead.

Things got even better for Cannistown in the second half. With the wind on their backs they registered another four points through Muldoon (3) and Blake and along with keeping Dunboyne scoreless led 0-7 to 0-1 as the game entered the final two minutes.

But Dunboyne rallied and Katie Crehan found the back of the Cannistown net to reduce the lead to three. With time up Crehan was on hand again to score her second goal and send the game into extra time. Final score in normal time Dunboyne 2-1 Cannistown 0-7

Neither team managed to score in the first half of extra time and just when it looked like another replay would be needed Dunboyne substitute Rachel Michael sent over the winner.

After the game Dunboyne captain Rachael Kane was pressnted with the Girls Division 1 Cup.
