The football championship structure is to be put under the microscope at next month's Central Council meeting - and big changes could be on the way.

The GAA's top brass will debate proposed alterations to football competitions at a meeting on Saturday, November 14.

SunSport understands there are six proposals from counties to be debated, ranging from small tweaks to more radical suggestions, while the Gaelic Players Association has also tendered a proposal.

At this stage, only two things are certain - the provincial championships will remain and there will be changes to the All-Ireland qualifier series.

The outcome of the meeting will result in a motion going before Congress next spring with a view to implementation in 2017.
