HS Club Hurling Team of the Week

September 03, 2015

Its our 5th hoganstand.com/Meath hurling team of the week for the year

It's knockout from here on in and we look back at the best performers from the final round of group games.

1 John Gleeson (Navan O'Mahonys)
Killyon's winning margin of 14 points would have been much greater but for a string of fine saves made by the O'Mahonys custodian at Athboy.

2 Thomas Raleigh (Killyon)
Solid and dependable. A key figure at the back as Killyon defeated O'Mahonys to qualify for the quarter final at Athboy.

3 Eolan Harrington (Trim)
Time and again broke up dangerous Kiltale attacks and cleared to great effect as the reigning champions were put to the sword at Kildalkey.

4 Colm McGrath (Trim)
Steady throughout but really came into his own in the second half as Jubilee Cup holders Kiltale piled on the pressure at Kildalkey.

5 Patrick Smith (Blackhall Gaels)
Worked right till the end. Outstanding at wing back as Blackhall earned a draw with Dunderry at Kilmessan to send them to the quarter finals.

6 Ger Foley (Killyon)
One that the Meath senior management team should keep an eye on. O'Mahonys could not find a way past the big centre back. Produced two outstanding catches in the opening 30 minutes at Athboy.

7 Mairtin Doran (Kildalkey)
The best player on the field as Kildalkey recorded a comfortable win over relegation threatened Rathmolyon in Lomans Park. Scored two great points into the bargain.

8 Alan Douglas (Trim)
Started at full forward but it wasn't to long before he was cut loose around the Kildalkey pitch. Gave Kiltale plenty to think about and scored three great points.

9 Eoin Lynch (Longwood)
Capped an outstanding display with three fine points in the win over Boardsmill to ensure that Longwood avoided the dreaded relegation battle at Lomans Park.

10 James Andrews (Trim)
Fantastic work rate, always looking to bring his team mates into the game. The Meath Under 21 captain had a hand in two of Trim's three goals against Kiltale at Kildalkey.

11 Keith Keogan (Killyon)
The ace marksman outscored O'Mahonys on his own with nine points. Unerring from frees especially in the first half in that comfortable win at Athboy.

12 James Kelly (Kiltale)
Really enjoying his hurling again and fast becoming one of the players of the championship. Scored a fine point had had a hand in numerous Kiltale scores against Trim.

13 Mikey Cullen (Trim)
A fine evenings work from the young Trim star. Gave Kiltale's full back line plenty to think about and hit three excellent points.

14 Benny Murray (Clann Na nGael)
The veteran attacker continues to find scores for an unbeaten Athboy side and it was no different against Moylagh in round 5. Hit 3-4 from play as Clann Na nGael marched to the semi finals of the IHC.

15 Neil Heffernan (Trim)
Goal poacher supreme. Another three for the corner forward, his third at a crucial stage as Kiltale attempted to make a comeback.
