Ladies Preview: 4 left in the race for Intermediate honours

September 02, 2015

Emma Rafferty - Dee Rangers

Every year the Intermediate Championship provides exciting close encounters and this year has proved no exception. In the first of the semi-finals, St. Michaels will host Royal Gaels in Carlanstown at 8pm on Thursday. In the round game, it was St. Michaels who came out on top, winning by 3-19 to 2-08.

Indeed, St. Michaels have only lost one game in the Championship thus far, the defeat coming against Dee Rangers in the opening round. The Carlanstown/Kilbeg side have recorded impressive victories over the other six Intermediate teams, their blend of youth and experience proving successful. Royal Gaels are celebrating twenty years of ladies football in October and an Intermediate Final appearance could not come at a better time.

They have enjoyed mixed fortunes in this year's Championship so far, recording wins over Moynalvey, Summerhill, Blackhall Gaels and Ratoath, while they were beaten by Donaghmore-Ashbourne, Dee Rangers and their semi-final opponents. The Dunshaughlin based side will look forward to another meeting with St. Michaels and this tie could go down to the last few minutes!

Dee Rangers topped the Intermediate Championship unbeaten and will look forward to home advantage against last year's finalists Summerhill on Sunday 6th at midday. Dee Rangers are already having a good year having annexed the Division Two League title earlier this year. When the sides met in the round robin stages, Dee Rangers recorded a 1-14 to 1-06 win. Summerhill will know they will have to be at their very best throughout.

However, this is a toughened experienced Summerhill side, they will know what it takes to get to the Intermediate Final having been there before in 2014 and 2013. For Dee Rangers, home advantage is key as their support has been their 16th man. This has all the ingredients for an intriguing tie.
