Ladies: Boardsmill on the Double

August 27, 2015

Boardsmill's Edel Guy

Boardsmill 1-13 Seneschalstown 1-6

Boardsmill versus Senschalstown games are always worth watching and this one was no different , The south Meath  girls  started the brighter and rattled of 5 unanswered points in a  first quarter that  saw Laura Dempsey and Edel Guy each  getting a brace of points,  before Laura Bagnall rounded off a fine team  effort  on 13 minutes .

The yellow furze outfit gradually worked their way back in to the game and began to negate the influence of Katie Hackett at midfield. Stacey Grimes and Shona Loughran soon knocked over points and looked to be well set to narrow the Boardsmill girls early lead after 17 minutes.

Boardsmill rallied and swept up field with Aideen Guy, Laura Griffin ,Raina Griffin, Edel  Guy all involved before  Maire Hegarty smashed a  low shot to the Senschalstown net on 18 minutes. Hegarty played intelligently all evening constantly finding space and linking well with midfield and the inside forwards. Grimes replied with a close range free before Guy (2) Dempsey  and Laura Griffin tagged on 4 points to close the half 1.09 to 0.3 . On another day the score could have been much closer .Boardsmill were happy to see Louise McKeever   pull a disputed penalty wide, 2 minutes into injury time.

Boardsmill were clearly the happier team at the break with their full back line of Cliona Murray Emma Troy and Kealey Hannon to the fore.

The second half saw Lizzie Doran and Amy Troy enter  the fray for their respective teams on 34 minutes. Seneschalstown settled and recorded the first 2 points of the half through Amy Gilsenan and Kia Geraghty before Laura Griffin blasted over the yellow furze cross  bar from close range.

Only  5 points separated the teams on 45 minutes after a speculative long shot from Mena Sheridan dipped under the Boardsmill cross bar. The game was end to end at this stage with both teams spurning further goal chances .

Dani O'Sullivan came on for the Mill as Dempsey increased her personal tally to 5 points  after 23 minutes . Shona Loughran shot narrowly wide of the Boardsmill post on 55 minutes only for Boardsmill's Amy Troy strike the cross bar from close range  at the other end. Dempsey tidied up with her 6th point from play to leave 7 points between the teams when Sarah Stanley blew her whistle for full time.

Boardsmill's management team of Dessie Hamilton Derek Fitzsimons and Brendan Regan will be satisfied with a good showing in the final round robin game in this years championship. Boardsmill now face St Ultans in the semi final.

Best for Boardsmill were Cliona Murray, Ciara Ashe , Laura Bagnall  Edel Guy and Laura Griffin . They were well supported by the high scoring Dempsey who looked back to her best and recently returned  Emma Troy who played really well at full back. Special mention for minors  Kealey Hannon, Rhiannon Hoey and Sarah Bagnall  who contributed to a good team performance .
