Worry over lack of success at schools level

August 25, 2015

St Pats Navan are the only Meath college competing at the top level.

Concern was expressed at the lack of strength of teams in some Meath schools during the report of the Football Steering Committee at the special meeting of the county committee on Monday night.

It was pointed out that only one school, St Patrick's, Navan, is competing in the top grade while Westmeath has four teams competing at that level. Teams from Meath towns like Ashbourne, Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin and Trim are taking part in secondary competitions.

The need for the continuing of internal competitions for school teams in the county was stressed.

Regarding the club scene, Colm O'Rourke was critical of the fact that a number of teams will be without competitive football from now until next February.
